May/June 2011

April 2011

This piece was created in the turret space. It ia 5 metres long. The curvature of the room helped create sections within the work so that the eye would wander from one end of the canvas to the other, it helped create a painterly narrative. Also the large size of canvas allows generous amounts of space to be left between each element within the work creating a nice flow.

May 2011- Mini Statement

‘The being of man is the being of a surface: the surface that separates one from the other’

But not just the being of man, but the being of all things is separated by space, by shape and by use. It is the focus of my practice to explore the differences and similarities in the existential properties enforced upon all objects and beings. To explore the consequence of form and use, which control and impart an order (or system) to our way of being?

I use a variety of medium to create a painterly language of relationships between recognisable objects of use and the Human form. My work is focused on the outline of things or the space and shape between and of an object. I aim to create playfulness between certain and elements within the work and often leave a sexual resonance because there is equality among forms. There is a format in place, in which no spatial presence is valued upon another- creations viewed upon as objects and creations viewed upon as human form are used within the work to create a spatial and painterly narrative and not to focus to the intricacies of each individual form.

Spatiality (1)

Spaciality (9)

These are my new works on unstreched canvas. I am using my previous research into photography theory, aswell as my current research on the spatial philosophy to create a visual dialog. I an using mixed media including the use of a variety of objects to create a visual narrative.

Thesis Nov 2010:

My current thesis title is: 'How things are different and how things are the same'. I am looking at the idea of the boundaries within space, for example the bady as a boundary or a container( aswell as other objects). I am looking at the difference between an object and its function, and also how aesthetic places a different value on objects and different value on space. The value of space being of an interest in debate with the idea of the neutrality of space, in the way that all space is connected to one another and therefore belongs to itself.

october 10

These photos came from a set i took las year. Ive drawn one image ontop of another. This year im interested in the idea of bacground and foredround, and also the idea that photography is an interpretation of the real, as much as a drawing or use of another medium.

September 10

These are paper stitched together then pasted to the wall, painted over white and sanded down. I wanted to belend the paper object to the white wall. The white wall being the background, not combined with the object (the foreground)
